I am a certified Single Subject Art Teacher and a professional Artist. I worked in the High School public school environment for 12 years teaching Art on on levels. I taught beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Art. I also taught ceramics, metals and Advanced Placement Art History. I resigned in 2010 due to autoimmune diagnosis that made it difficult to work full time.
I started teaching privately in the later part of 2010 and I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching homeschooled students. I moved to Bakersfield, CA in 2018 and my art teaching business as well as selling my original artwork has grown.
I teach art to age 9 on up including adults and Paint Parties. I teach out of a studio that is located on my property, online and I will also travel for in home lessons. The services I provide are drawing (graphite, colored pencil, Ink, dry and oil pastel) and painting (watercolor, Acrylic and gouache) as well as collage and simple stamp making and printmaking techniques. I include the language of art as well as the elements and Principles of art, technique and Art History. It is important for the student to understand the role of art throughout history and how it is still alive in current culture. Art plays such important role in our lives, history, culture, religion and society. Art is a wonderful way to communicate.
As an art teacher, I am driven to help and guide students grow individually in skill and understanding. I love the “aha” moments and my hope is to pass on a love for art that will last a lifetime. My passion for art was passed on to me by my grandmother and my mother who encouraged her children to be creative. As a child, I wanted to be an Art Teacher and I’m grateful that I was able to achieve that dream.
